The Lowell Transitional
Living Center in Lowell, Massachusetts is a homeless shelter for 90
people and provides12 transitional living units. The scope of work
included the complete restoration of a historic mill building into
dormitory and living space. The project consisted of excavating 3-4
feet below the existing basement floor temporarily supporting the
building while all bearing walls and columns were removed and rebuilt,
the complete restoration and reconstruction of the store fronts in
compliance with the local historic commission’s requirements,
the addition of an elevator shaft, all new mechanical, electrical,
plumbing, sprinkler protection, and the construction of a court yard
in the rear of the building. This was a privately bid project with
a construction value of $2,690,100.00.
